The role of student volunteer will involve supporting the running of a CPD study day on vascular ultrasound. Learning will be on how to conduct a vascular ultrasound scan of various body structures – for this session, this will be the Neck and Leg (up to the Groin area).
What you will be doing:
- The student volunteer will be required to attend to act as a ‘patient’ for the session and will be scanned by an expert in vascular ultrasound. Attendees may also scan the volunteer to learn the technique.
- This will involve the student lying on an ultrasound couch with the neck and/ or leg uncovered. Gel will be applied to the neck and/or leg and the academic or trainees will use ultrasound to scan the ‘patient’ to learn the ultrasound technique.
- The student volunteer will have a scan performed by a trained sonographer prior to the beginning of the session to ensure normality of anatomy. All students who are utilised will be required to sign a consent form which outlines the purpose of them being a ‘normal volunteer’ and the process that we will follow if any unexpected findings are seen on the scan.
- Students will be required for the whole of the session (am &/or pm) and will be scanned by an expert in vascular ultrasound. They may also be scanned by attendees under direct supervision of a fully qualified member of the Ultrasound academic team. Student volunteers will be present during the teaching session in between scanning demonstrations.
- Students may also be asked to support the cleaning of equipment (under supervision) at the end of the session.
Candidate and Skills Requirements:
- Required to be scanned either the neck and/or leg therefore should have normal anatomical structure of the neck or Leg (incl. up to groin)
- To have exposed area of body therefore must be comfortable with having the leg and neck exposed in front of attendees and be comfortable with a scanning technique to the groin region.
- To be scanned for ultrasound purposes
- Any gender
Pay Rate: £12.74 per hour
Working Hours: 3.5hrs on Saturday 22nd March 2025. Arrival in the afternoon.
Length of Contract: 1 half day
